Boat Trips

We offer two different services: NORMAL BOAT TRIP or OCEANOGRAPHERS FOR A DAY

1- NORMAL BOAT TRIP

The Posidonia oceanica meadows (a vital plant of the Mediterranean Sea) and the fauna and flora of the cliffs of the Sierra de Gádor can only be observed from the surface when they are at shallow depths. The Boat trip we propose takes place on an 8-metre-long semi-rigid boat, the same one used for diving activities. Thanks to its almost flat bottom, it can get close to the coast even if it is only 1m deep, which is a great advantage compared to larger boats. We will carry some “underwater viewers” on the boat, allowing you to observe the seabed when we moor in the area of the different coves. A Naturalist guide is on board and will discuss what we observe.

From October to May, the excursion lasts one hour. From June to September, it will be one hour and a half because, during the last part of the excursion, we will stop in one of the beautiful and quiet coves of the Sierra de Gádor and enjoy a swim with lifejackets, floats, and snorkeling masks.

2- OCEANOGRAPHERS FOR A DAY

2

Oceanographers for a Day is an excursion in which, in addition to enjoying a stroll through the sea, we will also carry out activities very similar to those carried out by scientists to obtain data and information about seawater.

We will depart from the Aguadulce Marina and head towards the Posidonia Monitoring Station at Aguadulce Beach. Using an underwater viewer, we will observe the millenary reef formed by the Posidonia oceanica meadows. We can see the ‘step’ in which the plants have formed over thousands of years. Then, we will take water samples to measure the pH and temperature. We will also use the Seschi disk to check vertical visibility. We will also use an underwater camera connected to a screen on the surface. We will observe an echosounder and a GPS, too. At the end of the excursion, we will use a plankton collector.

Later, we will approach the fish farm area, where we will generally be able to see birds more easily.

On arrival at the Dive Centre, we will be able to observe the samples collected to see if they contain microplastics. During the summer, we will also stop at a cove for you to swim in. We will lend you goggles and snorkels.

This is the video of the excursion!
